Yoni Steaming Myths, Part 2

Myth #2: You will burn yourself if you try vaginal steaming.

I’m not going to lie to you. It is possible to burn yourself while steaming. Steam varies in temperature, and our bodies are each unique – some of us are much more sensitive to heat than others.

But if you’re a functioning adult, you engage in plenty of other daily activities that carry a risk of burning yourself: turning the shower up too hot by mistake, cooking with literally any heat source, lighting a match, touching a metal object that’s been exposed to sunlight, sitting down on your dark-brown leather car seat while wearing shorts… The list goes on.

Thankfully, your body has a way of telling you when something is too hot, and you will often react without even thinking about it (by moving your hand/body part away from the heat source).

The issue with steaming is that many women are not being taught how to check the temperature of the steam before they sit down. So, when they get into place, they might discover that the steam is too hot, and they might not feel like they have permission to say something, or to stand up and give it time to cool off.

Many of us have also been conditioned to believe the platitude, “No pain, no gain.”

But this concept definitely does not apply to pelvic steaming.

The steam should feel comfortable & pleasant throughout your entire session. If your practitioner isn’t giving you space to sit and pay attention to the temperature of the steam (especially when you first sit down), you have permission to speak up and ask for what you need. After all, it’s your body!
